DJ Goals, Inspiration, and Tips for 2025: Grow Your DJ Career

Make 2025 the year your DJing truly takes off. Harness the new year enthusiasm and prepare your goals for the seasons ahead. Making solid plans now will ensure you kick start 2025 in the right direction.

To help our readers with their 2025 DJ goals we’ve put together the definitive list, providing inspiration and direction for your DJ ambitions. Use this guide to help you make the most of opportunities, networking events and career boosting milestones.

1. Enrich Your Mind & Aquire More Knowledge

DJs are curators of sound and the best selectors draw from extensive music knowledge. One of the best investments you can make in yourself is to acquire more music knowledge. Every DJ should have a a good understanding of the history of DJing but specialist knowledge is more valuable.

At LSA we recommend that DJs aim to acquire more knowledge about DJing and electronic music by creating a DJ-inspired reading list and absorbing as many books as possible. In addition, a strong library of electronic music documentaries and biopics can inspire your creativity and bolster your intellectual prowess.

Get yourself a notebook and practice writing down your goals, ideas and plans in 2025

Another great way to research other than readings and watching is by listening. Podcasts are one of the most popular mediums to help creatives learn from others experiences and be inspired by diverse approaches to the artwork. Click here for our recommended podcasts.

Don’t spend too much time in the library however! One of the best ways to acquire more knowledge is to get out and there and do some field research! Visiting new places is always a source of intrigue and a way to fully envelope yourself within the electronic music scene. Visit clubs, go to music festivals, dig through dusty record shops, buy tickets for conferences and frequent exhibitions. Make it your goal to experience something new each month.

To get you inspired here are some of the top DJ-related events in our calendar for 2025.

2. Learn More and Upgrade Your DJ Skills

Every DJ needs to practice their craft and expand their skillset. We recommend that DJs dedicate at least a few hours a week to the art of DJing.

Create a training ritual by planning your time effectively with a calendar. Manage your schedule effectively with a free calendar such as Apple’s Calendar or Google. See where you can squeeze in those extra hours of DJ practice or learning.

Booking a DJ course is the best way to improve your skills. Following a professional curriculum and being supported by an experienced tutor will guarantee exceptional results within a short time frame. Why not make it your goal to complete a professional DJ course.

3. Find an Accountability Buddy

Sometimes having an accountability buddy can help. Find a DJ friend who you can practice with B2B (back-to-back) and book some studio time. Why not make it a regular date and keep each other on the straight and narrow. Share your goals and benefit from the encouragement of having a second set of eyes checking over your homework.

Did you know? You can now book B2B DJ practice sessions at London Sound Academy with any of our DJ tutors. During each two-hour session you’ll take it in turns to mix. This is one of the fastest ways to pick up new DJ tricks and techniques while having the opportunity to discuss the world of DJing.

Top Tip: Why not experiment with other genres of music? Having a broad understanding of EDM genres is a brilliant skill for any DJ to hold. Click here to find our list of EDM genres that you can explore.

4. Stay Ahead of DJ Tech Trends

DJ technology is constantly evolving and the pace of change is only accelerating. It’s essential that DJs not only adopt new technology but realise that new tech presents the best opportunities to establish a presence in the industry. By leveraging new innovations and colonising new ground, you can become a leader in a new branch of the art form.

Make it your goal to research new tech trends and find novel ways you can push DJing and performance forward. Here’s a list of some of the tech trends we envision having a major impact on the world of DJing in 2025.

AI in Music Creation
AI in Video Creation
AI Agents & AI Teams
Blockchain, DApps and DAOs
Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR)

5. Master Social Media and Become Viral

To become a famous DJ with international bookings and global recognition you’ll need to master social media as a means of promotion. Open up your calendar and schedule some time each day to work on content creation and scheduling posts.

Try and develop a content diary and find out which formats are the most engaging. Click here for our sixty-day content creation guide and make it one of your goals to complete the whole experiment.

6. Learn a Complementary Skill within Music Business

Having more than one string to your bow will help drive your DJ career forward. DJs that have multiple complementary business skills can cast a wider net when it comes to networking, partnerships and collaborations.

Moreover, DJs can leverage their additonal skills to boost the value of any of their business propositions. For example, if a DJ also runs their own internet radio show they might become more valuable as a booking in the eye of a promoter due to the fact that they will advertise the event on their show.

Start this goal by brainstorming a list of skills your possess and skills you could learn that are taught after within the DJ industry. Click here for some inspiration

7. Up The Anti With a Fresh New Look

If you want to attract more attention, stand out from the crowd! A great look can go a long way to helping you reach new audiences. Think of iconic artists like Daft Punk, DeadMaus, David Bowie, Lady Gaga, Bjork, Mashmello, Kanye, Outcast, Prince. All these artists harnesses the fantastical power of image. Sure, it’s attention seeking and can seem shallow but it’s a strategy that works!

If this concept is something you could run with, why not experiment with different looks and indulge in fantasy aesthetics this year.

8. Book a DJ Photoshoot & Upgrade Your DJ Biography

Got a new look? Why not book a DJ photoshoot and upgrade your DJ biography. So many DJs neglect the most basic of promotions tools. A captivating range of DJ photos will communicate your professionalism as a DJ and garner more attention, especially from media. Your images will go hand-in-hand with a DJ biography so make sure yours is up to date.

If you’re looking for a DJ photographer we highly recommend DJ Photographer Thomas Hensher.

9. Take The Leap Into The World of Music Production

It’s easier to become recognised as a DJ if you are releasing popular music. It’s very hard to build any kind of fan base without your own tracks or remixes.

Learning how to produce can be daunting, especially if you have no musical background of if you’ve never played an instrument. Don’t worry! You don’t need an experience to start to learn how to produce.

Our Beginner Music Production Course will teach you all the essential skills within a set of four lessons. With our guidance you’ll overcome your doubts and embrace the creativity that music production can provide.

The sooner you start learning how to produce as a DJ the better.

10. Practice Mindfullness & Positive Reinforcement

While setting goals, planning milestones and creating ambitious schedules is thrilling, it can lead to creative, physical and mental burnout.

Be wary to set realistic achievable goals and practice a mindful approach to your 2025 dreams and aspirations. Make time for you to disconnect, log off, connect with family and friends.

Top Tip: Celebrate small wins with treats and rewards and acknowledging the things you should give gratitude for.

Many new aspiring DJs suffer from imposter syndrome. Know that this is totally natural and there are logical reasons as to why it happens. Click here to learn why DJ imposter syndrome is actually a positive sign.

11. Hang Out More Outside of The Club

Networking really is powerful. The people you meet dancing in the darkness might just someday be your ticket to a life changing career opportunity. Treat every encounter as a gift and reinforce connections outside of the club. Meet up for coffee, drinks, sports and entertainment.

Club connections can be very surface level, unless you make the effort to turn them into true friendships.
